Ever feel like you want to go to Israel, and you want to do something good to help society in Israel and the Jewish people? The Yochai Porat Magen David Adom Overseas Program, is something that does all of the above. The program is open to all adults post high school, who have an interest in the medical field, with a basic level of conversational Hebrew skills.
The program entails a 10 day training in Israel in which participants learn all the skills needed to be a first responder on an ambulance in Israel. After the 10 day course, everyone takes a final exam and if you pass, you are assigned to a station to do your volunteering in.
Overall, this program gives you everything you could ask for. You make friends that last you a lifetime, you have instructors who will always be there to help you if you need during your volunteering, you have other ambulance personnel who are thankful that you came to help give back to the society of the Jewish people, and you have the Israeli society where you find people on any given day who will walk up to you and thank you for what you are doing for their country, and most importantly you will find that this program makes you feel like a better person for the mitzvah that you will have completed.
